Sean Meo

Time Out Stand Up Of The Year 1997

Following a highly successful run in the 1991 Edinburgh Festival, Sean Meo became one of the resident comperes for London’s Screaming Blue Murder Clubs, where his accessible and easy going approach proved very popular. In the next two years, playing clubs and universities throughout the UK, his natural comic style developed, combining observational humour about everyday situations with gags that probe the more bizarre aspects of human behaviour.

Sean has had an enormous amount of experience in television. His earliest credits include Mr. Bean and Bottom. In 1993 he made his television debut as a stand-up on LWT’s Dial Midnight, and an appearance on Comedy Club followed almost immediately. He was also commissioned to write and perform some routines for Talking About Sex, a series of sex education programmes for Channel 4. After his debut appearance on Radio 1’s Loose Talk in 1994, he joined a select group of British comics as a guest on Comedy On The Road, part of A&E’s legendary Evening At The Improv series, for transmission in the USA. Other television appearances in 1994 included LWT’s Tarbuck Late, Summer In The City BBC1, Comedy Rules, STV and The London Comedy Festival for Carlton Television.

In 1995 he presented Comedy Network for BBC Radio 1 and television appearances included The Stand Up Show, BBC1, Talking Telephone Numbers and Celebrity Squares, ITV Network. As well as another appearance on Tarbuck Late, he was enrolled as a member of the script writing team for the whole series. In the Autumn he presented The Front Row, a series of arts and entertainment programmes for Anglia Television. 1996 saw a sell out theatre tour of the UK with Lee Hurst and him presenting The Warehouse, a series of 13 one hour programmes for Anglia television as well as appearances on BBC1’s Gagtag, Saturday Live (LWT) for ITV Network and The Stand Up Show (BBC1). He hosted a second series of The Warehouse for Anglia television in 1997 along with appearances on The Comedy Store, Channel 5 and The Clive James Show ITV network. 1998 began with an appearance on The Des O’Conner Show, ITV network and he appeared in a series of comic television commercials for Vauxhall Cars directed by John Lloyd. He has also written a series of promotional shorts for UK Gold.
